Fanore Slide (The)

I learned this well-known Slide from Eugene Lambe, a great piper and whistle player who did a huge amount of work recording the older musicians of North Clare back in the early 90s. Eugene himself learned “The Fanore Slide” from the playing of Micho Russell.
The tune is most often referred to as “Micho Russell’s” and was recorded by many famous musicians, including Jackie Daly & Kevin Burke on their album “Eavesdropper”.
Micho Russell called this tune “The Fanore Slide” or sometimes referred to it as an “Old jig from Murroogh” as well.

Note: The C naturals in bar 2 of the B part are often played as C sharps (or even high Ds). The C natural is what Eugene remembered learning from Micho Russell though.

I had the opportunity to spend time with Eugene Lambe and learn tunes from him directly thanks to the support of Clare County Council through the Clare Local Area Grant Scheme 2023.

Master Crowley’s

Master Crowley’s is a reel I learned from Hugh Healy, a great concertina player from Corofin in Co. Clare. It is sometimes played with a third part which is actually the first part of “The Roscommon Reel” (also known as Master Crowley’s!), and I’ve even heard the two tunes play together as a 5-part reel.

Green Moutain (The)

I learned “The Green Mountain” from Kevin Griffin, the great banjo player from Doolin. He recorded this reel on the album “Live at The Burren Centre, Kilfenora”, which was a live recording of one of the Riches of Clare’s concerts.

Jimmy Duffy’s No 2

This is the second tune of the “Jimmy Duffy’s Barndances”, which I learned from my friend, flute player Stéphane Germain. He actually enjoys playing these two barndances on the accordion, and it is one of our favourite sets to play at our Sunday afternoon session at Gus O’Connor’s Pub.
