Trip We Took Over The Mountain (The)

I learned this beautiful waltz from Eugene Lambe, a great piper and whistle player who did a huge amount of work recording the older musicians of North Clare back in the early 90s. Eugene learned “The Trip We Took Over The Mountain” from the playing of Micho Russell.

I had the opportunity to spend time with Eugene Lambe and learn tunes from him directly thanks to the support of Clare County Council through the Clare Local Area Grant Scheme 2023.

Random Tunes

Cup of Tea (The)

A common session tune, “The Cup of Tea” is a great reel which I learned through various sessions. This version is quite standard, however I would highly recommend Tommy Peoples’ version on his album “The Quiet Glen”, I think it’s the best recording of this tune ever.

Old John’s

“Old John’s” has been one of my favourite jigs for many years. I learned it from a recording of Tommy Peoples and also associate it with Tony MacMahon, the great accordion player from Clare.

Lady on the Island (The)

The Lady on the Island is a very common session tune. I first learned it from James Cullinan & PJ Crotty’s album “Happy to Meet”. It was also recorded by Dympna O’Sullivan on her beautiful CD “Bean chairdín” and by Hugh Healy and Blackie O’Connell.
