Plough And The Stars (The)

The Plough And The Stars is a reel I have learned through various sessions in the area. I also associate it with the playing of Murty Ryan, who recorded it on his duet album with Siobhan Peoples “Time On Our Hands”.

I have recorded this tune with with my friend Adrian McMahon on flute and with the help of Pat Dowling on keyboard to a video we made for the Micilín Conlon Memorial Weekend in 2020. It’s the second tune in the video, check it out below!

Glenside Cottage (The)

“The Glenside Cottage” (also known as “The Old Ruined Cottage In The Glen”) is a reel I learned from Terry Bingham’s album. It is the first tune of a set that Terry learned from Jackie Daly, the great accordion player from Sliabh Luachra who now resides in Miltown Malbay. The second tune in the set is “I Have No Money”.

John McHugh’s

“John McHugh’s Jig” is a very common session tune here in Doolin. I learned it at one of the Super Sunday sessions in O’Connor’s Pub with Noel O’Donoghue, Sean Vaughan and Hugh Healy. It is part of one of my favourite set, which is associated with the Kilfenora Ceili Band.
