An Tri Is A Rian

I actually don’t know much about An Tri is a Rian, and it’s not a “tune from Doolin” as such! I heard a recording of the great concertina player from Dingle Cormac Begley playing it, and loved it instantly. He called it “Mary MacNamara’s” so I assume he learned it from her. It was also recorded by Enda Scahill on his album Pick It Up.

Kerryman’s Daughter (The)

“The Kerryman’s Daughter” is one of my favourite tunes. I associate this reel with Sean Vaughan (and learned it from a recording I made of a gig I played with Sean and Noel O’Donoghue). Anytime he plays this tune feels like it’s party time! Great tune, thanks Sean!

I Ne’er Shall Wean Her

“I Ne’er Shall Wean Her” is a beautiful jig that I learned from Christy McNamara’s album “The House I Was Reared In”. Christy is an amazing photographer as well and he has taken some great photos of musicians over the past 30 years.

Galtee Ranger (The)

“The Galtee Ranger” is a reel which I learned from my good friend Stéphane. It was recorded by Mary Bergin and also by Kevin Crawford on his album “In Good Company”, and it is sometimes called “Callaghan’s” as well.
