Maids of Mount Kisco (The)

The Maids of Mount Kisco (often spelled “Mount Cisco”) is a very popular session tune. Mount Kisco is actually a place in New York State. I have learned this great reel through various sessions and associate it with the playing of two great ladies in particular, Kitty Hayes and Elizabeth Crotty.

I recorded a video of this tune back in November 2015, there are a good few mistakes in it but you can have a listen below. I’ll try to upload a new video soon!

Humours of Ballymanus (The)

“The Humours of Ballymanus” is a slip jig I learned from Siobhan Peoples and Murty Ryan’s wonderful album “Time on our Hands”. Siobhan and Murty are two fabulous musicians who live in Ennis and in my opinion one of the best duet of the last 20 years in Irish music.

If There Weren’t Any Women In The World

I learned this lovely barndance, “If There Weren’t Any Women In The World”, from a session with Terry Bingham, Yvonne Casey and Stéphane Germain at Fitzpatrick’s Pub back in 2012. I have played it with Terry on other occasions since and he likes to play it after a hornpipe called “Caisleán an Óir”.

Josephine Begley’s

I first learned “Josephine Begley’s” many years ago from Terry Bingham’s album, on which he calls this tune “Mairtin O’Connor’s”. I only found out in February 2021 that this hornpipe was in fact a composition of Frankie Gavin. It is the great flute and concertina player from Laois Tommy Fitzharris who provided me with this information.
