Maid on the Green (The)

The Maid on the Green is a very popular jig all over Ireland. It is one of the first tunes I learned on both tin whistle and concertina. I associate this tune with whistle and flute player Christy Barry from Ennistymon, who has been living in Doolin for many years and runs the wonderful Doolin Music House together with his partner Sheila (a must visit if you are in Doolin!).

I enjoy playing “The Maid on the Green” after another great tune called “Apples in Winter“. They were recorded together by the legendary Chris Droney and this combination is quite common.

Boys of Bluehill (The)

“The Boys of Bluehill” is one of the most common tune in Irish Music. Some would say it is only a beginner tune, but I think it is a beautiful hornpipe. This is the version we play around Doolin, I think I got it from Terry Bingham. I like playing this tune with flute player Adrian McMahon, he usually plays it after “The Good Natured Man”.
