Battle of Aughrim (The)

This is Micho Russell’s version of the famous march “The Battle of Aughrim”. It is not very different from the common version but I love Micho’s phrasing of the tune and thought I’d post his way of playing it.

It is very often followed by another great march, “Napoleon Crossing The Alps”, also know as “Bonnie Crossing The Alps”.

  1. Hi Charles,

This beautiful tune has been on my ‘to do’ list for ages. Thankfully your latest video has prompted me to get on and learn it !

    1. Hey Clive! Glad to hear that! Just to warn you this version is not exactly the most common one. It is close enough but most people play it a bit differently! This is my favourite version though 🙂 Hope you’re keeping well!

Ivy Leaf (The)

“The Ivy Leaf” is a reel I learned through various sessions, but I associate it my friend Tom Delany in particular, as well as accordion player Seán Vaughan. Micho Russell recorded a version of this tune also.

Cup of Tea (The)

A common session tune, “The Cup of Tea” is a great reel which I learned through various sessions. This version is quite standard, however I would highly recommend Tommy Peoples’ version on his album “The Quiet Glen”, I think it’s the best recording of this tune ever.

Galway Hornpipe (The)

I learned “The Galway Hornpipe” from Hugh & Colm Healy’s album “Macalla na hÓige”. I always enjoy playing “The Good Natured Man” after it, I think it is a very nice change.
