Cat’s Meow (The)

The Cat’s Meow is a wonderful jig composed by Joanie Madden, the great Irish-American flute and whistle player and leader of Cherish The Ladies. It is quite a common tune nowadays and I learned it from Aine O’Donoghue and Aine Griffey, two wonderful young musicians from Kilfenora who play concertina and fiddle respectively.

I don’t remember where I got this slide, “An Chóisir”, exactly, but I think it was during one of my visit to Dingle in West Kerry.
Séamus Begley & Steve Cooney play a great version of that tune on their legendary album “Meitheal”.

Cup of Tea (The)

A common session tune, “The Cup of Tea” is a great reel which I learned through various sessions. This version is quite standard, however I would highly recommend Tommy Peoples’ version on his album “The Quiet Glen”, I think it’s the best recording of this tune ever.

Laurel Tree (The)

“The Laurel Tree” is the second reel I have ever learned! I learned it from my friend Tom Delany during a lovely afternoon back in 2006 in the garden of Magnetic Music Café, where I used to work back then. I had this tune stuck in my head as it was the opening tune on Hugh and Colm Healy’s album “Macalla na hÓige”.
