Lillies in the Field

I learned “The Lillies in the Field” from Terry Bingham’s wonderful concertina album (he calls it “PJ Conlon’s on his album). It is a great reel which I have enjoyed playing for many years now and I also associate it with the playing of Tony MacMahon.

This reel was actually one of the first tunes I ever recorded on my YouTube channel back in 2015 (second video below). I recorded “The Lillies In The Field” again in September 2021 (I forgot it was on the channel already!), so that’s the first video below.

The Maids of Mount Kisco (often spelled “Mount Cisco”) is a very popular session tune. Mount Kisco is actually a place in New York State. I have learned this great reel through various sessions and associate it with the playing of two great ladies in particular, Kitty Hayes and Elizabeth Crotty.
