Kitty Hayes’ Hornpipe

I learned Kitty Hayes’ Hornpipe from the great album “Rooska Hill” by Tony O’Connell and Éamonn O’Riordan. Kitty Hayes recorded this tune herself as Junior Crehan’s. I couldn’t find this hornpipe in the book of Junior Crehan’s compositions published by his daughters Angela and Ita, However there is a reel called Crehan’s Banbhs in the book which shares a lot of similarities with this tune.

  1. Totally forgot that tune at the time. Tony Smith reminded me of it later as he got it from Junior. Don’t even know the name of it. Tony calls it Juniors tune. Angela

I used to listen to these albums quite a lot when I was working in Magnetic Music Café, which my very first job in Doolin back in 2006. I actually met Kevin Rowsome at the Russell Memorial Weekend in 2020, a true gentleman a wonderful piper.

Gaelic Club (The)

“The Gaelic Club” is not a common session tune, but I’ve loved playing it for many years now. I learned it from Hugh & Colm Healy’s album “Macalla na hÓige” and it was also recorded in 2015 by my friends Tom Delany and Caroline Keane with their band FourWinds.
