Collier’s (The)

“The Collier’s” is a common session tune and one of my favourite reels. I associate this tune with the great Tommy Peoples, but also with my friend John Fitzpatrick, who is a great local whistle player here in Doolin with a style that reminds me very much of Micho Russell.

I recorded this tune with my friend JB Samzun on our album “Aughavinna” which we released in 2020. If you’d like to support Tunes From Doolin you can order a CD or Digital Download Here.

I also published a video of “The Collier’s” on the YouTube channel, you can watch it below!

Humours of Glendart (The)

“The Humours of Glendart” is a common session tune which I learned through various sessions. I associate this tune with the great accordion player from Lisdoonvarna Bobby Gardiner, who lives in Tipperary. It is always a great pleasure to see Bobby on his visits to North Clare and a pleasure to share tunes with him.

I learned Patsy Touhey’s many years ago from the playing of Terry Bingham and was recently reminded of this great tune by Jack Talty.

Miss Galvin’s

I learned “Miss Galvin’s Hornpipe” through various sessions, it is usually played after “Poll Ha’Penny” around Doolin, as Mary Bergin recorded them on her legendary album “Feadóga Stáin”. “Miss Galvin’s” is associated with Ellen Galvin, a fiddle and concertina player from West Clare.
