The Maids of Mitchelstown (reel) | Tunes From Doolin | Irish Traditional Music

Maids of Mitchelstown (The)

“The Maids of Mitchelstown” is a wonderful tune that was made popular by The Bothy Band, on their album Out Of The Wind Into The Sun. I believe the original key was D minor, and I learned it in that key from my friend Tom Delany. It is also quite common in E minor in sessions around Doolin, as recorded by the great band Moher.

The Lads of Laois (Reel) | Tunes From Doolin | Irish Traditional Music

Lads of Laois (The)

The Lads of Laois is a beautiful reel that I associate with the playing of Gerdie Commane, concertina player from Kilnamona. Michael Queally (fiddle) also recorded this tune on the band Moher’s first album, “Out on the Ocean”.

Garrett Barry's | Tunes From Doolin | Irish Traditional Music

Garrett Barry’s

Garrett Barry’s is one of the first jigs I ever learned. It is a common session tune  associated with the blind piper Garrett Barry from Inagh, in Co. Clare.
