Rachel Reid
Rachel Reid comes from Blessington in Co. Wicklow. Inspired by her family roots in the west of Ireland (her mother is from Co. Sligo and father from Co. Clare), Rachel began playing traditional music on fiddle at age 11. She went on to study a B.A. and M.A. in Irish Traditional Music at the University Limerick before moving to the Burren in Co. Clare in 2016. She released an album called ‘A Quare Yeild’ in 2016 with her husband Alan Reid and she now teaches and plays as a full time musician in North Clare.

Charles Monod
Charles Monod is a concertina player from Switzerland who has been based in Doolin, Co. Clare for nearly 20 years. Charles learned his music through osmosis in sessions in Doolin and all over Clare until he enrolled in the MA Irish Traditional Music Performance program from the Irish World Academy at the University of Limerick, from which he graduated in 2022. His main influences include concertina players Terry Bingham, Hugh Healy and Tommy Fitzharris as well as local musicians such as Noel O’Donoghue, Sean Vaughan, James Cullinan and many more.
Charles is also an active researcher, promoter and producer. Most recently he has been working on “The Russells of Doolin”, an archive project about Micho, Packie and Gussie Russell and hope to finish this project during the summer. Charles is also the owner of Tunes From Doolin, a project that includes a podcast of the same name and he has organised several concert series in Doolin over the years as well as being the driving force behind the Russell Festival Weekend 2023 and 2024.
Teaching is another important part of Charles’ activities as a full-time musician. He teaches local kids and teenagers privately, leads an adult learner’s group in Fanore and a Teens group in Lisdoonvarna (with Rachel Reid). He also teaches tin whistle to 1st and 2nd class in Doolin National school as well as a free weekly tin whistle class for migrants in Lisdoonvarna.

Rachel & Charles have been playing together regularly for the last few years, enjoying a similar approach to music and developing a complementarity that makes both their individual styles shine through carefully selected tunes. Rachel and Charles also teach together regularly and will be hosting their first summer camp in Doolin this summer.
