Glen Road To Carrick (The)

“The Glen Road To Carrick” is a great reel from Donegal which I learned from the playing of James Cullinan and Dermot Byrne. They played an amazing concert at the Corofin Trad Fest back in 2013, and I learned this tune afterwards. They actually recorded it a good few years ago (1987!) for a TG4 program, you can watch the video below!

Master Crowley’s

Master Crowley’s is a reel I learned from Hugh Healy, a great concertina player from Corofin in Co. Clare. It is sometimes played with a third part which is actually the first part of “The Roscommon Reel” (also known as Master Crowley’s!), and I’ve even heard the two tunes play together as a 5-part reel.

Con Curtin’s Big Balloon

“Con Curtin’s Big Balloon” is a beautiful jig I learned from Angelina Carberry and Martin Quinn’s album. It can also be found in O’Neill’s under the name “Hide And Go Seek”. I associate this jig with Paddy Carty as well, who recorded it twice actually!

Kilnamona Barndance (The)

I learned The Kilnamona Barndance from the playing of Gerdie Commane, in a video published by Custy’s Music Shop on their website a good few years back. John Williams, a great accordion and concertina player from Chicago who spent a lot of time in Doolin, also recorded this tune on one of the first albums of the band Solas.
